About Us

Church History:

The First Baptist Church of Aurora, Missouri was organized in November of 1870 at the Liberty School House just northwest of town. It appears that this Church was formed from lettered-off members of other congregations. On September 11, 1871, the Aurora Baptist Church reported in their first letter to the Association that they had received 57 members by letter and seven by relation.

1930 They came principally from the old Baptist society of Buck Prairie which had been in existence since 1842. The building of the Buck Prairie Church had burned. since they had no building, they decided to grant letters to all worthy members. This was done in October, 1870.

1940The membership built the first house of worship in 1879 at the northeast corner of Jefferson Avenue and College Street in Aurora where it remained until 1951.

Under construction 1950 In 1951 the church moved to the present location at the corner of Locust and Jefferson Avenue. The second unit was completed in 1953. It provided for a nursery department and library. The next unit to be built was the main educational and recreational building, finished in 1956. It included a modern kitchen, dining room with recreational facilities, and several new assembly rooms and classrooms.

In 1964 the last addition was completed. It contained a large number of assembly and class rooms, provided quarters for the music ministry and included several needed changes in the former building.

In 2002, renovation of the church sanctuary was completed. It included new pews, sound system, larger stage, pulpit, lobby furniture, as well as, renovation to the walls, baptistry, stained glass windows, ceiling, and floors.

While we are glad to have a great building to meet and fellowship in, we are most glad that we remain a group of believers that are committed to the cause of Christ and to spreading the good news of His birth, life, death, and resurrection to our community and world.  To all those wonderful Christians that have gone before us and are responsible for the beginning and growth of this church, we say "Thank You!" for the solid spiritual foundation that you have left for us to build upon.
