From the Pastor's Pen
Vacation Bible School has come and gone.
Thanks to the hard work of so many the message of Jesus went out to over
100 children throughout the week. VBS is a team effort, but a big thank
you goes to Anne Mattingly and Tammy Wallace as the VBS Directors. We
also say thanks to all the workers. These individuals were involved in
teaching, singing, crafts, decoration, driving vans/bus, enrollment,
bookkeeping, audio/visual, photography, games, activities, snack
preparation, clean up and much, much more. We had workers from 13 years
old to 76 years old. A special thanks to our ladies classes who
provided additional food for the workers. Thanks to Rick and Becky
Horton as they kept the building looking good all week. On June 1st
we had a great time with over 50 parents who do not attend First Baptist
Church as they attended the worship service and lunch. The best part of
the week was the children who gave their life to Christ.
Next week, we will be at children’s
camp at Baptist Hill. We will be taking only a few children (due to
summer school), but we will be taking seven workers. One of our local
pastor’s had intended on being the camp pastor, but due to illness he
could no longer carry that responsibility, so last week I agreed to be
the camp pastor this year. Please pray for me as I listen to God and
prepare and present His message next week. On Wednesday evening of
camp, several of our ladies from FBC will be going to prepare and serve
the evening meal.
June will also be a month of preparation
for “Saturday Night Alive” (SNA). This is a new ministry from First
Baptist to our community. On July 5th we will have a
“Parking Lot Picnic” to introduce SNA to the community. SNA will be
designed to minister to a younger crowd and to those who are searching
for answers to life questions. Please pray daily for this ministry and
invite people to the picnic.
I know the economy has changed. I know
things cost more for less. Yet, I also know that God is faithful to His
people. His promises are not impacted by the financial changes of our
society. God has promised to take care of His people and to provide for
His kingdom work. It is our opportunity to give a tithe and offering to
God as an act of worship and praise. Do not let the concerns of this
world keep you from enjoying the privilege of giving. Honor God with
your giving.
